Nozincwadi: Mother of Books

The Gcinamasiko Arts and Heritage Trust in collaboration with eThekwini Municipality and Redisa will host the 2016 celebration of International Literacy Day on 8th September at Bambani Hall eKukhanyeni, Kwanyuswa Entumeni, Botha’s Hill in The Valley Of A 1000 Hills from 9h00 am till 16h00 pm.

The Nozincwadi project has celebrated International Literacy Day in Durban for the last 10 years. Each year different schools are invited to participate in the celebration. The theme for 2016 is “Turning Waste Into Wow”. Schools have been given the theme in advance and are busy preparing appropriate spoken word, dance and theatre performances in accordance with the theme. Schools will perform their creative pieces on the day of the event with The Gcinamasiko Junior Storytelling Award being awarded for various performance categories.

2016 also marks the inaugural Gcina Mhlophe Junior Storyteller Award for students who have excelled in storytelling.
