EVENT DESCRIPTION OR PURPOSE: Renowned South African storyteller, Gcina Mhlophe celebrated her birthday at the Newtown Junction Mall on 24th October. The event was arranged by JT Communications. Gcina Mhlophe also made a very critical announcement and revealed that she will soon be launching a lifelong dream project that is very close to her hears – reveal and share information about a lifelong project very close to her – an Oral History Museum which is named : The Dr Gcina Mhlophe Memory House – which will be based in Durban and honour the ordinary people – a neutral space where anyone wishing to record their history is welcome.

Dr Mhlophe also used the opportunity of her birthday to launch her new “Hope Song” CD which is on sale via this website.

There were live performances of the CD Hope Song feature Gcina Mhlophe with Bheki Khoza, (musical director and lead guitar), Melvin Peters on Piano, Saxophonist Jerry Kunene, Paki Peleole on Drums, Bass guitarist Mandla Zikhalala and percussionists, Mabi Thobejane and Mpho Molikeng who’ll also perform music from the Hope Song. Jabulani High School from Soweto were invited to participate. A 1000 Signature Campaign in support of the Memory House was signed by all in attendance including Mama Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Bongiwe Dlomo and other prominent people.
